Feb 15-17 . NC School Tour
On February 15-17, CORE Performance Company heads to North Carolina on a tour to middle schools, through the support of The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County. The Arts Council partners with the Cumberland County and Fort Bragg Schools and a variety of individual artists, artist companies and local arts agencies to build collaborations between schools and cultural resources. The Arts Council’s Arts in Education program reaches over 50,000 students. CORE has been a part of The Arts Council’s Artists in School Roster since 2003 and has toured to schools through the roster several times in recent years.
CORE will be performing Loco-Motion, a narrated, 45-minute children’s performance that brings to life the concept of movement as the language of dance, and explores the communicative power of language through a physical experience. It is appropriate for children in grades Kindergarten through 5th and their families. Through an interactive dance performance, students will gain a better understanding of language and sentence structure, with emphasis placed on the use of verbs and adverbs as description of action. Students will be encouraged to grasp the following concepts:
- Verbs are words that express action
- Adverbs are words that modify verbs
- Dance is a means of nonverbal communication, and a language of movement/action
- The practice of movement/action can be modified by the use of language (verbs and adverbs)
