Why I Dance
For the personal freedom it gives to my body, mind, & soul. To be in tune with my joy. For the distraction and escape from worry. For the physical activity and the release of excess energy. To experience physical & mental challenges. To connect with people…my fellow dancers, the audience. To encounter unexpected places, outside my own backyard, through travel. For my sanity. For the opportunity to confront my fears. To feel confident, safe, sane. So I don’t have to work a 9 to 5…at a desk…& more importantly I don’t have to wear a suit & tie, I can roll out of bed & straight into rehearsal. For the ability to laugh at my mistakes. To feel accomplished when I master something I previously couldn’t. For the opportunity to inspire someone else to live their dream because thru dance I live mine!

Why I Dance
To move closer to completion. To experience emotions as they pour through my muscles and skin. For the test and challenge – not against each other, with each other. Reaching for something as concrete as sweat yet abstract and elusive. To experience the real magic of being, far beyond the reach of the monkey brain. To experience what is timeless yet always filling just one moment. To create more direct communication, communion, and community than words.
