About The Artists
Joyce Day is a native Houstonian and graduate of The High School for Performing and Visual Arts, majoring in Instrumental Music. Joyce is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, currently performing member of several local rock bands, as well as percussionist with 2 singer-songwriters. Additionally, Joyce is a Ceremonial Singer, sitting with traditional Lakota drum groups based in Rosebud, South Dakota and Texas. She also leads a women's drum and vocal group in Houston, which specializes in Indigenous women's folk songs from around the world, presenting in Spanish, Nahuatl, Lakota, Urdu, Yoruba, Tagalog, English and other languages. Joyce is currently finishing the score for a short film entitled "Silver Dollar", which she composed and performed. For the past 8 years, Joyce has been a volunteer band coach and instructor with Girls Rock Camp Houston, working to empower girls 8-18, and inspire their inner rock goddess. Since 2012 Joyce has held the position as Performing Arts Coordinator with Creative Women Unite, overseeing submissions, selections, and scheduling artists for their annual International Women's Day event. Joyce is an "artivist", using the universal language of music to raise consciousness, lift spirits, and promote Community.
Kirk Suddreath is a drummer/percussionist involved in many facets of the Houston art scene. He provides musical accompaniment for classes at several dance studios including Houston Metropolitan Dance Co., Hunter Dance Center, and Houston Ballet Academy. He is also an accompanist for Houston Ballet Academy’s outreach program that includes after school youth dance classes, and Adapted Dance which provides creative movement classes for children with Down Syndrome. Kirk has musically collaborated and performed with several Houston theatre companies including The Catastrophic Theatre/Infernal Bridegroom Productions, UH School of Theatre and Dance, Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Co., Horse Head Theatre Co., and Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theatre. He composes and performs with Two Star Symphony which has created original musical scores to accompany theatre and dance, as well as several classic silent films. Kirk has collaborated with many local bands playing in a wide range of musical styles. He is currently co-creating a rock opera about former Texas Governor Ann Richards.
While James Edwards is not a native Houstonian, he has lived in the city since age 4 and considers himself properly Houston raised. A graduate of the High School for Performing and Visual Arts and a student of Jazz Studies at the University of Miami and the University of North Texas, James has been playing drums and percussion since the age of 9. Since 2006, James has been working in the healing arts as a Licensed Massage Therapist. In his own small way, he believes he is helping to bring peace to the world through massage and music.
