On Film

inside:out
inside: out reconstructs the dancing body via screen techniques - at times a construction of an impossible body, one unencumbered by gravity, temporal restraints. inside:out invites investigation of movement and its permutations on a very intimate level via the very nature of the camera, with its capacity to zoom in and out and to focus tightly in a very small area. A site-specific practice, inside:out is a hybrid form in which the camera may be thought of as the site, constantly shifting and creating an ever fluid definition of place and time. The moving body is the architecture against and through which the audience perceives the work.

Unanswered Question
The Unanswered Question, with a score of the same name written by Charles Ives in 1908, explores through opposites the ways in which we as humans attempt to find ourselves. Similar to the two distinct energies in the music, beautifully seductive strings, and discordant “questioning” horns, the film contrasts raw, explosive, self-absorbed movement with outward, tender, stillness; a white nebulous manufactured space with a lush natural environment; extreme closeups with wide shots.
Together
Together is a collaboration between composer Judd Greenstein, Music ensemble, filmmaker Adam Larsen, and choreographer Sue Schroeder. Crafted during the pandemic with a majority of the components recorded in isolation, both the score andvisuals explore the ideas of togetherness/separateness and what connection means without touch.

body of water
Sue Schroeder and Christian Meyer as longtime collaborators have created body of water. Filmed in 50℉ water in Stößensee, Berlin, the lake provided the location to explore the myriad ways that water can connect with and inform our human nature.
In Berlin, the main water quality problems are eutrophication, the associated growth of algae, and damage to the oxygen balance caused by eight major sewage plants.
Schroeder, along with Meyer, wish to raise awareness for this issue in Berlin through this creation.

I am a word and also its echo
Set in Atlanta, "I am a word and also its echo" is a screen dance film directed by Nuno Veiga in collaboration with and featuring Sue Schroeder. Inspired by the writings of Clarice Lispector, the film explores the fleeting nature of the present moment. Schroeder's performance, accompanied by Veiga and Filipe Sousa evocative score from their project a r | r a with voice recording by Adrien Kay, captures the delicate balance and transient beauty of the now, reflecting the essence of life's impermanence.
